Maryland's "first families" are traditionally the descendants of Sir George Calvert (Lord Baltimore) and of those passengers who came on the Ark and the Dove in 1634.
The Maryland colony they founded was unique for its religious tolerance and its lack of democracy. Following is a “synthetic passenger list,” meaning it is pieced together from several sources. This amalgam is from the Society of the Ark and the Dove, Harry Wright Newman's book, The Flowering of the Maryland Palatinate (1985: Baltimore) and Robert E. T.
