Society for Descendants of First VirginiansEligible Ancestors for Order of Ancient PlantersApr 10, 2009 Rosemary E. Bachelor
Ancient planters are defined as those who paid their own passage to Jamestown, VA before 1616, remained at least three years and survived the 1622 Jamestown massacre.
The Order of Descendants of Ancient Planters is among those lineage societies that include descendants of a very specific group of ancestors. It appears that some exceptions for the membership criteria have been made to include descendants of such early officials as Col. William Claiborne, who arrived in 1621. The Society’s goals include honoring the memory and heritage of this select group of Virginia’s first settlers. It promotes both historical and genealogical research. Following are the names of approved planters whose descendants are eligible for membership.
