The Generations Network is Changing Hands

Popular pay-to-use genealogy site Ancestry.com will soon have a new owner


Generations Network is the parent company of several genealogy websites, such as Ancestry.com and Myfamily.com.

A majority interest in the company has been bought by Spectrum Equity Investors for $300 million. The deal is expected to close by the end of the year. Many of the current executives will stay on with the new board of directors.

As finance and business are not my areas of expertise, I will let you read all the details from these news sources than try to explain them myself:

One can only wonder whether this will bring any changes to the service at Ancestry.com. With any luck, the subscriptions prices will be reduced. I'll keep watching for updates.
