The Barbados Slave Register from 1834 has been added to the Ancestry.co.uk collection of online databases.

If your family tree leads back to those held as slaves in Barbados during 1834, this may be an invaluable resource for your research. There are more than 100,000 names of slaves and their owners listed in this new database. And in the future, there will be several more related lists added to the UK Ancestry site, to completely publish the "Former British Colonial Dependencies' Slave Register Collection, 1812-1834", that has more than 3 million names.

You can read more about this on CNN.

If you are doing research of ancestors who were slaves, you can read further on this difficult aspect of genealogical study.
